After graduation from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hostetler joined a private practice in Salt Lake City, Utah for 10 years prior to joining Hill’s Pet Products. His passion for veterinary parasitology was initiated during the parasitology and laboratory courses in veterinary school. His interest in the subject became stronger and solidified after joining Ciba-Geigy Animal Health in 1996. A 28+ year career within the “industry” side of the veterinary profession has taken Joe around the globe in many different roles supporting small animal and equine science and the respective products; many of these products, especially during the last 19 years, have been companion animal parasiticide products.
During his career, Joe has had the fortunate opportunity to network and collaborate with many parasitologists within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. These relationships have enhanced his knowledge of current trends, thoughts and learnings within the parasitology world and helped integrate that information into the respective corporate organizations/functions he has supported (including technical and marketing information/messaging communicated to veterinarians, hospital staff, and the pet owner). Additionally, he has been fortunate to have been associated with and led many exceptional industry veterinarian teams that share a similar passion for parasitology.
For the past 12 years, Joe has called Kansas City home where, in his current role, he not only has the opportunity to lead/manage the field based technical service veterinarian team, but is also responsible for collaborating/networking with all investigators/parasitologists during ideation, creation and implementation of all Good Clinical Practice Post-Marketing studies. This research supports all marketing efforts for parasitology related products at Bayer Animal Health.
