In this group of parasites, depending on the species involved, the gamonts are found within red or white blood cells of the vertebrate host; in the cat, the gamonts are found within the white blood cells. Sporogony and merogony occur within the body of the vector, a tick. Cats become infected by the ingestion of the infected tick rather than through the bite of the tick.</span></span></span></p> |
