Paragonimus ohirai Miyazaki, 1939

Paragonimus ohirai is found in Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Taiwan, and China; where it tends to be distributed around the mouths of rivers. The life cycle is typical of the other species of Paragonimus. The final hosts are rats and other mammals, including the cat; infections in humans are rare. The snail hosts tend to be localized in the regions in which they are found as are the brackish-water crab hosts. These flukes differ from the other Asian species of Paragonimus in that the spines on the body occur in clusters rather than being single (Miyazaki, 1991).
